A Breakthrough for Babies Born Alive

I hope you are keeping well and finding fresh strength in the Lord as we progress through this year.  Amidst the worrying news and turmoil, there are also real signs that faithful, persistent advocacy is starting to bear fruit - especially as to the protection of vulnerable babies and the defence of Christian freedoms in our nation.

Labor Agrees to Born Equal Bill? 

OK, they did not go quite that far yet. But something important has changed. For years, the pro‑life community in WA has been fighting for a simple principle: when a baby survives an abortion, that child must receive lifesaving care or palliative care if survival is not possible. 

Last week in Parliament, Hon Maryka Groenewald MLC asked the Government directly whether it would commit to ensuring that babies who survive an abortion in WA hospitals receive either lifesaving or palliative care. After years of evasive answers and resistance, the Government finally said YES on the public record! This is a first, hard‑won concession to pro‑lifers in this state. 

This still remains an utterly tragic situation, especially where a baby cannot be saved. This commitment, however, marks a significant shift with the Government so admitting a duty of care to babies born alive after abortions - something we have been calling for from the beginning. 

The most concrete and honest way for the Government to honour this new commitment is to pass Maryka’s Born Equal Amendment Bill, which would enshrine these protections in law and make sure no future government can quietly walk them back. We need to see this done. ✅ 

The Australian Christian Freedom Index 

Our friends at the Canberra Declaration have launched a powerfully new initiative: the Australian Christian Freedom Index (ACFI). This is a national project to track and document anti‑Christian violations of religious freedom, compile evidence from all six states and territories, and produce an annual report on how free Christians in Australia really are. 

The Index combines legal cases, policy changes, media incidents, and lived experiences to create the most comprehensive picture of Christian freedom in Australia ever produced. You can play an important part by completing their Australian Christian Freedom Index Survey, especially if you have personally experienced—or seen someone else experience—bias, censorship, or unfair treatment because of their being a Christian.

Your story will help build a factual, documented case for stronger protections for religious freedom in Australia. 

Let’s Keep Building on These Breakthroughs.   It has been one year since the WA state election, and with AC’s representation in Parliament through our member, Maryka, together with your support of the AC Party,  we’ve managed to:

These are real results. But they are only the beginning. There are far more questions to ask, more hidden statistics to expose, and more battles to fight on behalf of Western Australians who care about life, faith, family, and freedom. 

To keep this momentum going, we need to strengthen Australian Christians as a movement—inside Parliament through Maryka’s work, and outside of Parliament through committed members and supporters of the AC Party.
