Trump’s Comeback and what it means for Australia
Donald Trump has overcome the odds to be re-elected 47th President of the United States, in what has been described as one of the greatest political comebacks in history.
The Australian media did not see this one coming, and there’s a reason they missed it.
By focussing on Trump’s personality and character (which can be highly objectionable at times), they failed to examine the policies that propelled him to such a monumental win.
Trump ran on a stridently pro-family platform. He promised to bring economic stability to American households, make streets and neighbourhoods safer, put parents back in control of their children’s education, protect girls’ sports, and strengthen religious freedom.
Australia’s major parties are too timid to offer anything like what Trump promised Americans. That’s why Australian Christians exists. While other parties have abandoned the family, AC is ready to fill that void and champion Aussie families who are facing strong cultural and financial headwinds.
So what were Trump’s pro-family policies? Dedicated to “the forgotten men and women of America”, his platform promised to:
- End inflation, and make America affordable again
- Defend… our fundamental freedoms, including freedom of speech [and] freedom of religion
- End the weaponisation of government against the American people
- Cancel the electric vehicle mandate and cut costly and burdensome regulations
- Cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, radical gender ideology, and other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content on our children
- Keep men out of women’s sports.
Religious freedom, climate change, racism, indoctrination and transgenderism are generally regarded as highly controversial issues. What’s amazing about Trump’s victory last week is that, rather than shying away from these issues, he attacked them them head-on — and he won convincingly!
Trump did not just secure every swing state to sweep the electoral college last Tuesday. He also won the popular vote count by the largest margin of any Republican in history. In addition, the GOP picked up new governor mansions and state legislatures, kept the House, gained the Senate, and can now guard the conservative majority on the Supreme Court for many more years.
In other words, Trump has a strong mandate to carry out what he has promised.
Trump also defied just about every stereotype in who he mobilised to vote for him. Far from just attracting older white males from the rural south, Trump saw major demographic shifts in his favour.
He won majority support from white women, despite Kamala Harris’ fear mongering on abortion. The majority of Latino men also voted for Trump, along with 40% of Latina women and 25% of Black men. He also made major gains in other demographics:
- A 12-point gain among voters under 30
- A 32-point gain among Asian voters
- An 11-point gain in the states of California and New York
Perhaps the biggest headline coming out of the 2024 US election is that the Republicans are now the party of the working class, while the Democrats are the party of the out-of-touch elites.
These facts should haunt Australia’s major political parties. The incumbent Albanese Labor Government is peddling climate change and censorship in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis unparalleled in other Western countries.
Meanwhile, the Coalition, which traditionally defended families, is doing precious little to push back on gender madness, defend religious freedom, or cut through the bureaucracy that is making families poorer and less free than past generations.
The time has come for change, and the results of the US election give us a good indictor of shifts that are taking place globally.
If Australians want to see political change, there’s no point voting for the major parties anymore. Financial, cultural and spiritual change is possible, however, with Australian Christians standing up for family values in our nation’s parliaments.
