Have You Seen Inappropriate Books in Your Local Library?

Australian Christians is calling on concerned Western Australians to help identify and report sexually explicit material that may be available in children's sections of public libraries.

For some time, concerns have been raised about books containing sexual content that are accessible to minors in public library collections. Australian Christians MLC, Maryka Groenewald has been advocating for greater transparency, accountability, and age-appropriate standards when it comes to materials made available to children.

To support this work, members of the public are invited to report any books or resources they believe may be inappropriate for children and young people.

The information gathered will help build a clearer understanding of the extent of the issue across Western Australia and assist in raising concerns with the relevant authorities.

Importantly, Australian Christians encourages all community members to engage respectfully with library staff. Concerns should be directed towards the content and the policies governing library collections, not towards the individuals working within libraries.

If you discover material in a children's section that you believe warrants review, please submit the details through the reporting form.

Those who do not have access to a Google account can alternatively send information directly to Maryka Groenewald's office. maryka.groenewald@mp.wa.gov.au

Community participation is an important part of ensuring that public institutions remain accountable, and that parents are able to have confidence in the appropriateness of materials available to children.
